A sure sign summer is here, is when the Kataklysmos flood festival, is upon us.

With the actual day is this coming Monday 9th June, creating a welcome long weekend for many locals and visitors alike. There are events in most seaside towns across Cyprus and due to begin from this Friday.

Unique to the independant country of Cyprus, the Festival of Kataklysmos has its roots in the biblical flood.

Celebrations include songs , music and dance performances, often by well-known Cypriot stars, as well as talented local groups and performers. Stalls are set up along the sea-front in some towns and on the Monday in particular, look out because part of the Kataklysmos tradition is for people, mainly children & crazy adults throw water at each other !
