TRADITIONAL CYPRIOT HILLSIDE VILLAGE OF "FYTI" (PHYTI)
The beautiful small village of Fyti nestles in the hills between Paphos and Polis and dates back to medieval times. At the heart of the village is the Arts and Craft Museum in the village square, which is owned and run by a charming local husband and wife, who have lived in the village all their lives and who's families go back many generations in this lovely village.
They have kept alive the traditional art of silk cultivation process from silk worms to finished textiles. Originally over 100 women were working in this village making high quality Cyprus Silk, now this dying craft is limited to this sole remaining couple. This small museum is full of old weaving and farming equipment and they are pleased to show you everything that is there, many things are fully working.
There are old photos of the village, and everything inside the museum is lovingly maintained by them. Entrance is free but leave leave a generous donation to this charming old couple who are keeping the traditions of this beautiful village alive. Unfortunately there is no one to continue with this when this couple go. They are open all day everyday and welcome tours and large groups.
